Bangladesh can heave a sigh of relief as opener Tamim Iqbal has been cleared to play the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe next month after a scan on his injured groin on Sunday showed no severe damage.
Tamim picked up the groin injury in his penultimate match for Nottinghamshire in the Friend Life Twenty-20 tournament and was given a week’s rest after he returned from England on July 17.
‘It is a grade two groin injury so you can say that it is not that serious,’ Debashish Chowdhury, physician of BCB told New Age on Sunday.
‘He has not torn any tissue but there is slight damage in his groin. Theoretically, he is supposed to be fine by July 28 but at worst he can miss the practice match in Zimbabwe,’ said Debashish.
The vice-captain, along with skipper Sakib al Hasan
and the rest of the squad, is expected to attend an optional practice session today under new coach Stuart Law.
Bangladesh will play a Test match and five one-day internationals against Zimbabwe in their month-long tour which begins on August 4.
