Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal eventually proved his worth in the shortest format of cricket as his maiden hundred at the Amber Victory Day Twenty20 Cup made him the highest individual T20 scorer of Bangladesh. Tamim was expected to be one of the best T20 players of the country due to his aggressive style of play but he could hardly do justice to his talent so far. However, the long wait ultimately ended when his 64-ball 130 for UCB-BCB XI against Mohammedan Sporting Club elevated him to an elite club of century makers.
‘It is always nice to score a century. It is special as it was a do-or-die match for us,’ said Tamim.
‘It always raises your confidence and it helps you to learn a lot of things.’
‘I can learn how to pace my innings in a big match.’
The southpaw also thanked Mithun Ali for his support.
‘If Mithun had not supported me it would have been difficult.’
I feel that he should also be credited,’ he added, as the pair added 137 runs for the second wicket.
The southpaw bettered Anamul Haque’s 105 for Prime Bank against UCB-BCB XI in Sylhet to become the highest individual T20 scorer of Bangladesh.
Anamul’s innings though was overshadowed by UCB-BCB XI pace bowler Al Amin as the paceman hogged all the headlines after grabbing five wickets in an over. The brilliance of Sakib al Hasan in the same match ensured Anamul’s blistering hundred was merely another stat.
Anamul had overtaken the record created by Shahriar Nafees in the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year when he smashed 103 runs for Khulna Royal Bengals.
Nafees had earlier passed the feat of Mohammad Ashraful, who holds the distinction of scoring the country’s first T20 hundred for Dhaka Gladiators in BPL 2013.
