Renowned filmmaker of the country Tanvir Mokammel’s popularity has spilled over the country’s border quite a long time ago. Mokammel is a known name, as a distinguished filmmaker, in the filmdom neighbouring Kolkata, as his films and documentaries have been screened several times in different film festivals there. Mokammel’s five films have recently been invited and scheduled to screen in Kolkata. The filmmaker’s documentary Karnaphulir Kanna will be screened at Nandan in Kolkata at the International Short and Documentary Film Festival of Eastern India, which will begin tomorrow.
Karnaphulir Kanna (2005) is a documentary on the crisis and struggle in the lives of the people of Chittagong Hill Tracts. The documentary shows how the Kaptai dam, which was built in 1962, affected the river Karnaphuli and peaceful living of people in that area. To note, the film was initially banned by the government, but later on was cleared to release.
Besides, four other acclaimed films of Mokammel- Lalon, Laalshalu, Rabeya and Jibandhuli- will be screened in a special two-day show on July 5 and 6, organised by Kolkata-based Saltlake Film Society.
