Tarique Rahman, the elder son of former BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia returned to the country on December 25 after ending 17 years in forced exile in the United Kingdom, marking his homecoming with a historic reception attended by over 10 lakh people.
Tarique had previously been sentenced in several cases, including a life term, and faced numerous other charges, most of which were filed during the 2007–08 military-controlled interim government.
