A day after sending legal notice to a minister, BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday served another legal notice on the state minister for law advocate Qamrul Islam for making derogatory remarks against him. Barrister Kaiser Kamal, lawyer for Tarique Rahman, served the legal notice on behalf of Tarique, through post office and courier service.The legal notice asked the state minister to apologise unconditionally to Tarique Rahman, or withdraw his remark in two weeks’ time. Otherwise, “legal action will be taken against him, if he failed to comply with the notice demand,” the notice said.
According to the notice, Qamrul Islam on May 24, and 25 in separate programmes said that Tarique Rahman is hatching conspiracy abroad to oust the government.
Quamrul also said that Tarique had gone abroad on parole. His parole period has expired in the meantime, the notice said.
After sending the notice, Barrister Kaiser Kamal at a press briefing said that the political image of Tarique Rahman has been tarnished following Qamrul’s statement. Qamrul Islam made false, fabricated, and deregatory statements regarding Tarique, he added.
Tarique Rahman, who’s now on bail, went to the UK for medical treatment after taking the Supreme Court’s permission in 2008. He is undergoing treatment for various illnesses, Kaiser said.
Earlier, on Monday Tarique sent a legal notice to the forest and environment minister Dr Hassan Mahmood for making defamatory remarks against him.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal, has also sent a legal notice on Monday to the forest and environment minister Dr Hassan Mahmood.
