Paceman Taskin Ahmed’s chances of playing in the Asian Games Twenty20 cricket for Bangladesh brightened when an MRI report suggested that it was nothing serious with his right knee, Brett Harrot, manager of BCB’s physiotherapy department, told New Age on Thursday.
Taskin, who has been suffering from a tendon injury in his left knee for quite some time, started to feel the problem in his right knee too for the last few days.
So, when it seemed that his participation at the Asian Games was in jeopardy, it prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board to do a MRI scan on his right knee on Wednesday.
And the result of the scan was not as bad it was thought.
‘He will probably go to the Asian Games. We have received his MRI report and it shows that he is having a tendon injury on his right knee too,’ said Brett.
‘But it is very common with pace bowlers and requires a proper amount of care to be able to continue to bowl,’ he added.
Meanwhile, another Bangladeshi pacer Al-Amin Hossain, whose participation in the Asian Games also suffered a blow when he was reported for suspect bowling action by the International Cricket Council during the first Test against West Indies, could be replaced by Rubel Hossian or Forhad Reza, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief selector Faruk Ahmed on Thursday.
‘We are still not confirmed whether there is any need of a replacement for Al-Amin. I will talk with the management committee tonight [Thursday], and if required we can choose one from Rubel Hossain, Farhad Reza or Suhas [Shafiul Islam] as his replacement,’ said Faruk.
Earlier, off-spinner Sohag Gazi was reported with a suspect bowling action during the one-day international series against the West Indians and was replaced by Sakib al Hasan in the Asian Games squad.
The BCB opted to send their strongest available squad for the Games where they will play directly in the quarter-finals in their bid to defend the gold medal.
Mashrafee bin Murtaza will lead the squad featuring the top Twenty20 players of the country with the exception of regular captain Mushfiqur Rahim as he will be busy with his marriage during the time.
