Second City Group Taste of Dhaka food festival begins in the capital Thursday to conclude the celebrations marking 400 years of the Dhaka city.
The festival ‘City Group Taste of Dhaka-2010’ will be held at Kalabagan ground, jointly organised by Dhaka Kendra and Spellbound with the assistance of City Group.
This was revealed in a news briefing held at the National Press Club in the city, said a press release.
The festival will remain open from 10:00am to 9:00pm every day. This year, nearly fifty renowned food shops and restaurants including Star, Haji’s Biriany, Café Corner, Nannah’s Morag Polough, Shomsher Bhuna Khichuri, Haji’s Makhan Tehari, Mustakim Chap, Bakarkhani, Beauti Lachchi and Bara Baper Polae Khae will participate in the festival.
Apart from the food shops, a mini museum displaying photographs and antics of Old Dhaka will be set up at the fair ground.
Besides, more-than-hundred-year-old Dhaka’s welfare oriented organisation Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam would participate in the fair.
Various types of cultural shows including Kawali, Chhad Petano Gaan, Baul Songs and Dhakaiya jokes will be performed in every evening of the festival.
Traditional merry-go-round ‘Nagor Dola’ and ‘Bioscope’ will be available to make the children familiar with the traditional cultural heritage.
Moreover, Dhaka Kendra will give achievement awards to a number of eminent citizens of the capital for their contribution to various social works.
During the three-day fair, online votes will be collected for Sundarbans to make it one of the world’s seven natural wonders, the organisers said.
Newly built Bangladesh Tourism Board under Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry will be the official partner of the event. Channel i and Radio Today are the media partners of the festivals.
Civil Aviation and Tourism secretary and chairman of BTB Shafique Alam Mehdi, 400-Years Anniversary of Dhaka Celebration Committee convener and chairman of Dhaka Kendra Azim Bikash and CEO of Spellbound Sadequl Arefeen spoke at the conference.
