Speakers tell Action Aid programme
Due to weak tax administration, absence of political will and opaque company reporting, tax justice in Bangladesh has not been established yet, said speakers at a programme on Monday.
ActionAid Bangladesh organised the national sharing on Tax Justice Campaign, a project they would launch in September, said a press release.Transnational and multinational companies show an attitude as if they would withdraw their investment if they are not given the facility of ‘tax breaks’, said AAB country director Farah Kabir.
The government should ensure that these organisations do not get the chance to dodge tax and they invest more in public services like health and education, she observed.
AAB director (programme, policy and campaigns) Asgar Ali Sabri made a presentation at the programme where the importance of political economy of taxation was highlighted while AAB deputy director (programme, policy and campaigns) Aamanur Rahman made another presentation on the national strategy on tax justice.
