The cellular phone operators will today submit application to the telecom regulator to participate in the 3G bidding. The deadline of the application submission would end today, after the regulator – Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission – had extended the deadline for
the third time, as it was scheduled to end on August 1.‘We are hopeful that the operators would file applications for the 3G bidding tomorrow, as the commission has already resolved their (operators) observations on auction process,’ an official of The Legal and Licensing Division of BTRC told BSS on Sunday.
The much awaited auction would be held on September 8, as it has been shifted from September 2 responding to the request of the operators.
The regulator deferred the auction of spectrum assignment for the 3G or Third Generation cellular phone services for the third time. The 3G auction was originally set for June 24, but it was re-fixed on July 31 before being rescheduled for September 2.
Other deadlines for the auction procedure have also been rescheduled. As per the new time, the list of qualified applicants for the auction would be published on August 18 while the consultation on auction procedure on August 19, submission of
Bid Earnest Money on August 26, the letter of acceptance or rejection on September 1 and notification of winning applicants on September 8.
The operators, however, are yet to take the final decision to file application, rather they are mounting pressure to the regulator till the last moment to realise maximum benefits from the bidding.
