Norwegian trade minister Trond Giske on Sunday said Telenor would invest more in Bangladesh, especially in the 3G (third generation) mobile facility through Grameenphone.
He also showed interest in investing in shipbuilding, ship-recycling and oil and gas sectors.
Trond Giske, who is leading an 18-member trade delegation, expressed the interest during a meeting with foreign minister Dipu Moni at her office.
He said Statoil, a Norwegian company that is specialised in deep sea operation, could invest in Bangladesh in the future.
The Norwegian minister also expressed interest to expand their investment in the IT sector of Bangladesh, which includes providing training and developing skills through higher education.
During the meeting, the two ministers largely focused on economic cooperation, trade and investment in addition to various ongoing and future initiatives.
The Norwegian minister informed that this was the first time that a trade and industry minister from Norway came to Bangladesh, which showed the symbol of a new chapter of strong relations between the two countries.
Dipu Moni thanked the Norwegian minister for early recognition of Bangladesh in 1972 and also for the support Norway had been rendering all these years since Bangladesh’s independence.
She also expressed her gratitude for the duty- and quota-free access that the Norwegian government had been extending to Bangladesh since July 2002.
