Mustafa Sarwar Farooki’s feature film Television bags Jury Grand Award at the Asia-Pacific Screen Award at Sydney in Australia.
The award was handed over to the actor of film Tisha and the screenplay writer Anisul Haque at a ceremony that took place at the City Hall on Thursday. Noted Sri-Lankan actor Malani Fanseka handed over the award at the programme.
Farooki was not present at the programme as he is now in Dubai where his latest film Piprabidya is participating at the Dubai Film Festival.
Ritesh Batra’s Lunch Box from India and Hunny Abu-Asad’s Omer won the Second Jury Grand Award and Best Feature Film award respectively.
230 films from 41 countries participated in this year’s Asia-Pacific Screen Award, from which nine films were awarded in different categories.
Depicting a story of collision between the old and the new social values, Farooki created the film casting Chanchal Choudhury, Mosharraf Karim, Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Shahir Huda Rumi.
The film has also received Netpack Award at the Kolkata Film Festival. Besides, the film has so far been screened in other festivals like Busan International Film Festival 2010, Dubai International Film Festival 2012 and Cinemanila International Film Festival 2012.
