The troupe members presented dance recitals, music and a collage production featuring selected parts of the five theatre productions the troupe produced so far. The programme began with a dance recital synchronised with Shankoter Bihabolotay. The main attraction of the programme was the collage of five plays: Makarsha, Shanti Rakkhak, Tomar Janno Swadhinata, Abak Jolpan and Mahua.
Written by Dr Lutfar Rahman, Makarsha depicts the misfortune of the common people who are stuck in the intricate web of political malpractices by the politicians.
Shanti Rakkhak, written by Bishnu Bose, depicts similar misfortune of the people who more than often receive maltreatments at the hands of the peace keepers, the police.
The third production Tomar Jonno Swadhinata is an adaptation of poet Shamsur Rahman’s famous poem with the same title that features the people’s struggles during the war.
Abak Jolpan, written by Sukumar Roy, is a comic that satirises a conflict among groups of people about the habit of drinking water.
The collage production got appreciation from the audience. At the end of the programme, thespian Ataur Rahman commented on the troupe’s performance saying that, ‘Theatre Punyabhumi seems to be a disciplined and active theatre troupe. I expect that the troupe will develop further.’
‘We are a committed theatre troupe. Our commitment is to the people, to the society through staging beautiful productions,’ said Julfikar Hussain Sohag, president of Theatre Punyabhumi, who directed all the five productions of the troupe.
