A three-year old male tiger was beaten to death in Jorsingh, a village adjacent to the Sundarbans Thursday morning.
The village is under Koyra upazila in Khulna district.
Villagers said a fish hatchery worker, who first spotted the straying tiger at the village bazaar by the side of a pond of the hatchery early in the morning cried out for help.
Fellow villagers rushed there and informed the local forest office about the tiger, they said.
They said that a number of the villagers trapped the tiger in a net and bate it.
The tiger died on the spot, they said.
The Sundarbans west zone assistant forest conservator, Md Zahirul Haque, told New Age later forest personnel recovered the body of the three year old male tiger from the spot.
