Former Sri Lankan cricketer Ruwan Kalpage arrived in Dhaka on Sunday to join the Bangladesh cricket team as their new fielding coach putting an end to his long relationship with the Sri Lankan side. Kalpage was appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board recently as the Tigers’ fielding coach on a two-year contract after the post fell vacant after the departure of Australian Corey Richard.
Sri Lanka wanted Kalpage to stay with them until the ongoing series against Pakistan ended, but the BCB wanted him to arrive before Bangladesh leave home for West Indies.
With new fielding coach Piyal Wijetunge showing his back, the BCB is now expecting Kalpage, who was the head coach of Bangladesh’s National Cricket Academy from 2008-10, play the dual role until a new appointment is made.
Sri Lanka gave Wijetunge a counter offer, which prompted him to stay back despite signing an agreement with the BCB.
