BCB unlikely to take action against Jurgensen
The Bangladesh Cricket Board recruited Bangladesh-origin Canadian sports physiologist Ali Khan to counsel the members of the national cricket team in the wake of a disastrous performance in the recent ICC World Twenty20. Ali Khan, a life coach and neuro linguistic practitioner, has received life coaching certification from ‘Robbin-Madaness Training USA, the most prominent and effective life coaching institute of the world.
The core tutor Tonny Robbins has coached more than five million people in 100 countries, including tennis greats Andre Agassi and Serena Williams and world leaders like Nelson Mandella, Bill Clinton and many celebrities.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan confirmed his appointment.
‘I approved a psychologist for the national team,’ said Nazmul Hasan told reporters at a programme in Dhaka on Saturday ‘Basically it is to raise the confidence level of the national players.’
‘Our team were doing well but just after losing to Afghanistan, their morale broke down. The same thing happened after losing to Hong Kong. Previously, we used to fight even after losing.’
It was learnt that Ali will hold a three-day session with the national players on April 24, 27 and 28 respectively.
Nazmul added that BCB started receiving the reports from the members of team management that they were asked to submit after the debacle.
In the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh lost their all matches in Super-10 after qualifying for the phase with two wins against Afghanistan and Nepal and a loss to unfancied Hong Kong.
‘I received the report from the head coach and the medical team,’ Nazmul told reporters.
‘I have gone through them but cannot disclose it unless revealing the fact board in the next meeting,’ said Nazmul.
Nazmul said they are considering in bringing some new specialised coaches for the national team in near future.
‘I have personally spoken to specialised spin and batting coaches. We are looking for these coaches,’ he said.
The BCB president also dropped a hint that they are unlikely to take any serious action against against coach Shane Jurgensen.
‘Jurgensen may stay,’ said Nazmul. ‘I can’t tell you right now. It is hard to get a good coach.
‘Saqlain Mushtaq was available but he said he wants to coach the team when they are on tour,’ referring to Bangladesh’s new found interest on former Pakistani spin great.
‘What will he coach during a tour? He won’t come to Bangladesh, which is a big problem,’ Nazmul said on Saqlain.
‘We want to keep the head coach and coaching staff but at the same time we will hire top players to come and do some specialist camps for the kids and the seniors, like legendary spinners and batsmen,’ said the BCB president.
‘These will be and addition to our regular coaching system,’ he said.
