Bangladesh will start their three-match One-Day series against the New Zealand on Tuesday, leaving behind their success during the October 2010 home series.
The Tigers defeated the Black Caps by a 4-0 margin at home in 2010, but the players do not expect history to give them an extra edge going forward.Opener Shamsur Rahman – called up to the ODI squad for the first time – and veteran pace bowler Mashrafee bin Murtaza both emphasised that it was more important to perform on the day rather than to rest on their laurels.
‘I don’t know whether there is anything at the back of the mind about that series, but this is a new series altogether,’ said Mashrafee, who makes his return to national side after an injury in the Bangladesh Premier League final in March kept
him out of the last two international series.
‘I know there would be expectation. At the same time we must remember that they are good at this format so whoever plays well on that day will come out victorious,’ he added.
Shamsur believes that the media is making more of the issue than the team.
‘It is you [the media] who is talking so much about the series win,’ said Shamsur.
‘I think everyone is looking forward without thinking too much about it.’
