Batting programme for bowlers starts
Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe took an initiative to improve the batting skills of bowlers by designing a six-day long special batting programme ahead of the home series against Australia.
Pace bowlers Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Shahid along with spinners Taijul Islam and Jubair Hossain joined the programme on Tuesday under Under-19 coach Mizanur Rahman.
Tigers’ manager Khaled Mahmud said the programme will end on August 30.
‘We know that our bowlers are not very comfortable against pace bowling so the coach deigned the programme,’ said Mahmud.
Coach Mizanur said that he is asked to show the players how to defend both against short and fuller length balls.
‘The players were given short and fuller length balls in the nets and told to defend them,’ said Mizanur.
‘As they don’t bat very often it looked that they are not very comfortable. Hopefully they will be comfortable in the coming days,’ said Mizanur.
Pace bowler Mustafiz admitted about his discomfort against pace bowling.
‘I am lucky not to be hurt,’ he said. ‘Actually we don’t get the chance to bat very often against pace bowling. So it’s natural that we won’t be comfortable,’ he said.
Bangladesh will face Australia in two Tests in October with the matches scheduled to take place on Oct 9-13 and 17-21.
