Tigers wrap up series in rousing style

Bangladesh kept their cool under pressure as they beat West Indies by two wickets in the fifth one-day international to clinch the five-match series 3-2 in Dhaka on Saturday.
Nasir Hossain played a crucial unbeaten innings of 39 as the home side became third time lucky to pull off a win in having wasted a 2-0 lead in the previous two matches.
The victory came in the most dramatic manner as Nasir drove Andre Russell through the extra cover to start celebrating without completing the run or waiting for the ball to cross the boundary rope.
His partner Elias Sunny also returned from half-pitch to join an untimely celebration that almost ruined the party, leaving the fans in the gallery and in front of the television set bewildered.
The ball returned to West Indies players and the umpires had no choice but to send back the onrushing Bangladeshi players and ask Nasir to take the guard again.
But Nasir was in no mood to delay it further and this time he struck the ball for a four to complete the win that came after a roller coaster ride throughout the match.
A sense of déjà vu had gripped the Tigers when Kemar Roach removed openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque in his second over and dismissed one-down Jahirul Islam in the fifth to leave the hosts wobbling at 30-3.
However, man of the match Mahmudullah and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim roared back as they launched a counter attack to put Bangladesh firmly on course with a 91-run fourth wicket stand.
Sunil Narine bowled Mahmudullah for 48 and took some help from luck to dismiss Mushfiq for 44 putting the pressure back on the home side, who were being cheered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina among the 25,000 crowd.
When Mushfiq was bowled to a delivery that he defended well but saw it taking a bounce in the wicket to hit the stumps, Bangladesh still needed 85 runs for win.
Rookie Mominul Haque (25) beat his nerve to add further 53 runs with Nasir to take Bangladesh closer to the coast, though the home side nearly made a mess losing two wickets to Roach in consecutive balls with the pacer finishing with 5-56.
This is Bangladesh’s second series win against West Indies after they recorded a 3-0 clean sweep win against the under-strength side in the Caribbean in 2009.
Mominul earlier took two vital wickets to help Bangladesh restrict West Indies to an achievable total after Pollard had threatened to take it beyond their reach with his buccaneering 85 off 74 balls.
Pollard joined Darren Bravo when West Indies were tottering at 17-3 and struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking having conceded five consecutive maiden overs.
Shafiul Islam replaced Mashrafee bin Murtaza and took his role to torment Chris Gayle, who recorded another failure to score two off 19 balls, giving Bangladesh some early momentum.
Pollard swoop on the spinners to take the pressure off with eight sixes and five boundaries before Mominul bowled him to end his 132-run fourth wicket stand with Bravo, who played the role of an anchor to score 51 off 108 balls.
Bangladesh then quickly wrapped up the innings as West Indies lost their last five wickets for 29 runs. Shafiul took the final wicket to return with 3-31 with Mahmudullah and Mominul chipped in with 2-38 and 2-14 respectively.
West Indies, who won the Test series 2-0, will end their tour with a Twenty20 International on Monday.
