THE Rajshahi Metropolitan Police have taken four-tier security measures in the city areas to avert any untoward incident during the two big religious festivals of the Muslims and the Hindus. Durgapuja, the largest religious festival of the Hindus, is scheduled to be held between 10 October and October 14 while Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest festivals of the Muslims, will be held on October 16.
Police said the city was very sensitive as communal forces were active there.
Any time the miscreants may create trouble in the city and could disturb the religious harmony, police official apprehended.
Sarder Tamij Uddin, acting RMP commissioner, told New Age that 11 policemen would be deployed at the very important puja mandaps, 9 at important mandaps and 6 police men at a general mandaps in the city.
He also said already police, Rapid Action Battalion teams, city special branch of police and detective branch had been deployed at the sacrificial animal markets, shopping centres and important points of the city on the occasion of the festivals.
Meanwhile necessary preparation is going on in full swing in the city and nine upazilas of the district for celebration of Durga Puja.
During visits to different mandaps in the city, Hindu devotees were found busy preparing to welcome the goddess Durga.
Besides, idol makers have been working round the clock for the last few days to accomplish their work within the stipulated time while many interested people irrespective of religious beliefs are seen visiting the places to see the decoration works.
The Hindus are also painting and cleaning their houses and business places to mark the day.
General secretray of Rajshahi city Puja Udjapaon Parishad Alok Das told New Age that decoration of the deity with colour and erection of mandaps was going on amid enthusiasm and fanfare and a total of 66 mandaps would be set up in the city.
Alok Das also said about 100 groups of idol makers of Rajshahi were now busy at the mandaps and they have already completed 90 per cent works.
