Bangladesh women’s cricket team posted a dominating eight-wicket victory over hosts Malaysia in their first match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur today.
Electing to field first, Bangladesh bowlers fired on all cylinders against the Malaysia batters. The Tigresses were a wicket away to skittle out their counterparts as Malaysia managed only 49 for nine in 20 overs.
Rumana Ahmed and Suraiya Azmin bagged a couple of wickets each while Salma Khatun, Nahida Akter and Ritu Moni all scalped a solitary wicket. Malaysia captain Winifred Duraisingam, scoring 12, was the highest scorer for her side.
In reply, a 38-run opening stand between Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun guided Bangladesh towards victory. Shamima’s knock of 28 runs off 19 balls was laced with four boundaries and a maximum.
Followed by the departure of the openers, Nigar along with Fargana Hoque saw the Tigresses over the line with 72 balls to spare.
Rumana was adjudged the player-of-the-match for her economical bowling spell of two for four in four overs.
