The government has embarked upon a plan to set up a ‘BSCIC Printing Estate’ outlaying Tk 187 crore at Barbarta under Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district, according to the Ministry of Industries.
The estate, first of its kind, would have 419 industrial plots and create 17,000 job opportunities during the project period of four years.An agreement to this effect was signed between Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation and Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samity at the BSCIS head office in the city on Wednesday.
Director (planning) of BSCIC Roma Rani Roy and BMSS chairman Shaheed Serniabat signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of respective sides.
Among others, BSCIC chairman Sham Sundor Sikdar and BMSS leaders were present on the occasion.
The printing estate would be built on 50 acres nearby Dhaleshwari Bridge of Munshiganj district.
The BMSS will give 90 per cent finance for specialised project and the rest would be borne by BSCIC once the project is approved by the government.
Under the project, a good number of infrastructures including utilities would be constructed.
The country has now around 5,500 printing industrial units and over 55 per cent located in Dhaka city and more or less 4 lakh people are directly or indirectly involved in the industry, according to the BSCIC.
