Unidentified miscreants looted Tk 66 lakh after killing the night guard of British American Tobacco regional office in Jaipurhat on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Md Abul Kalam Azad, 55, a resident of Madarganj under Jaipurhat Municipality. He was the security guard of British American Tobacco Company Ltd at Dhanmondi in Jaipurhat town.
Abul Kalam was strangled, police said.
The staff of the office found the second floor of the four-storey building open Sunday morning. The body of the guard was lying there and the vault on the third floor was also broken.
On information, police rushed there and recovered the body and sent it to Jaipurhat Modern Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Manager of the company in Jaipurhat Md Forhat Hossain confirmed that the miscreants looted Tk 66 lakh and 32 thousand from the vault.
The incident was a pre-planned one, officer-in-charge of Jaipurhat sadar police station Rashid Sarker said.
Police, however, suspected the staff and the acquaintances of the night guard.
