As part of adventure tourism, the country for the first time is going to introduce tourism aircraft called ‘micro light’ today, giving a boost to the tourism and hospitality industry.
The microlight aviation is the flying of lightweight, 1 or 2 seater fixed-wing aircraft with parachute.
Civil aviation and tourism minister Faruk Khan will inaugurate the demo flight boarding such an aircraft at 10.30 am at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
‘It’s like a parachute aircraft. I want to see for myself how does it really look like’ he told BSS Wednesday.
Faruk Khan said the micro light is being introduced by a Bangladesh Army para commando Major who had successfully jumped a record of 300 times.
A proposal for operating microlight aircraft in the country has already been submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) for approval, he said adding that after getting the approval, the aircraft would be introduced in Cox’s Bazar, the busiest tourist spot of the country, to run commercially.
Assuring that there is a little chance of an accident while operating the aircraft, the minister said, ‘I want to introduce it for young people who are adventurous.’
Four concerned persons have already received training in this field from Malaysia, he said adding that initially two such aircraft will be put in place and the number will be raised in the coming days in phases.
Detailing the maiden parachute aircraft, the minister said it will have a small fan and an engine. The micro light will be able to fly as high as 2,000 feet, he added.
Faruk Khan said tourist onboard the aircraft would be able to go up and down as control of the aircraft would be at the tourist’s hand.
