The second joint commission meeting between Bangladesh and Vietnam emphasized on bilateral trade and industrial investment to enhance economic cooperation between the two friendly countries.
At the end of the two-day meeting of the commission on Sunday, finance minister AMA Muhith said that the joint initiatives to boost bilateral trade and joint ventures for industrial cooperation would be taken up on a priority basis to achieve higher economic growth and sustainable development.
At the joint commission meeting, held at the National Economic Council in Dhaka, the Bangladesh team was led by Muhith and the Vietnam delegation was headed by its trade and industry minister Vu Huy Hoang.
The first meeting of Bangladesh-Vietnam joint commission meeting was held in Hanoi in February 2006.
The two governments agreed that the 3rd JC meeting would be held in Hanoi in 2014 at a date to be agreed upon through diplomatic channel.
During the two-day meeting, Bangladesh and Vietnam agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture and aquamarine fisheries, trade, health, tourism, food security, investment, education, and science and technology.
In his closing remarks, Muhith said, ‘I firmly believe that the measures recommended in the JC meeting in the sectors of trade and industry, agriculture and fisheries, sharing of knowledge in science and information and communication technology, disaster management, and education would widen the path of future bilateral operation in years to come.’
Finance minister said it is a matter of great satisfaction that both sides have been able to reach consensus on a number of concrete measures that would take the current level of cooperation between Bangladesh and Vietnam in different fields to new heights.
Vietnamese trade and industry minister Vu Huy Hoang said bilateral trade and cooperation between the two countries would be enhanced in the coming years.
Economic Relations Division sources said that a high level political consultation between Bangladesh and Vietnam would be held later this year in Hanoi according to the signed minutes between the two countries.
Foreign ministers of the two countries would lead the consultation meeting to share views to enhance regional cooperation and trade.
Two countries also agreed to cooperate with each other in ASEAN and other regional and international forums.
Replying to a question from a journalist, Muhith said that the political unrest comes each time before the parliamentary election. But the country will move on.
