Traditional songs and recitations on 3rd day
The significant role of traditional musicians at the war of independence was characterized through the presentations of
the traditional songs composed during the war.
The 3rd day of the ongoing weeklong victory celebration programme was celebrated through the rendition of traditional songs, patriotic songs, through recitations and a discussion lecture that took place at the Liberation War Museum on Thursday.
A troupe of bhawaiya singers soulfully presented a number of songs composed by the bhawaiya singer and composer Maheshchandra Roy and Kasim Uddin. The songs were composed during the war of liberation to inspire and motivate the people to stand against the Pakistani army.
Songs like Chiro jagrato bangali, Epar bangla opar bangla, Dah amar bangla-re, Hamra gila bir bangali and Oki baapre baap were rendered in typical bhawaiya tune that used to fill the air of the northern region of the country during the war of independence.
Noted bhawaiya singer Irfan Hossain and his team entertained the audience with these songs at the programme.
Artistes of Kranti Shilpi Goshthi presented popular patriotic numbers like Ekti Bangladesh, Nongor tolo tolo and Tolo tolo aj; while recitation artistes of Sangbrita Abritti Charcha Kendra presented an attractive compilation of poems.
Compiled by Jalaluddin Hira, the compilation consisted of verses taken from a number of famous poems written by Sahmsur Rahman, Syed Shamsul Haque, Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah and others.
Earlier, a book on the 1971 genocide, titled Documents of Heidelberg Conference on Bangladesh Genocide and Issue of Justice, was launched at the programme. The book has been edited by Mafidul Haque and Umme Wara Mishu. Professor Muntasir Mamun delivered an overview of the book at the launching session.
