Advance train tickets for journey on October 11 and onwards and most of bus tickets for journey on October 10 and onwards have been sold out in the capital while many people are yet to get any tickets to leave the city to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja.
The Bangladesh Railway began selling advance tickets on Wednesday for October 11 and on Sunday it sold tickets for October 15.
Tickets for air-conditioned and first class seats in most of the Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Sirajganj, Kishoreganj-bound trains were sold out within two hours on Sunday at the Kamalapur railway station.
Our correspondent reports that at Chittagong railway station AC and first class tickets for journey to different destinations including Dhaka, Sylhet and Rajshahi were sold out within an hour.
Kamalapur station master Shakhawat Hossain Khan said all the tickets for October 15 were sold out.
Some people left the station empty-handed like every year.
Monowar, a small trader who reached the station at around 11:30am for buying tickets for journey to Rajshahi, did not get any ticket.
Rehana Begum, a housewife, also failed to buy any ticket for journey to Chittagong.
BR officials said that about 50,000 to 60,000 travellers would be able to reach their destinations from Dhaka during this Eid while in the port city a total of 12,000 advance tickets had been sold in five days.
Meanwhile, people at the counters of different transport companies at the Gabtali bus terminal said that most of the advance tickets from October 10 till October 15 were sold out on different routes.
‘We have no seat for journey to Naogaon, Bogra, Pabna, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, and Sylhet on October 10 to October 15,’ said Mohammad Zakir of Shyamali Paribahan.
Shohag Paribahan official said they did not have any ticket for journey from October 11 to October 15 for Sylhet, Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira, and Brahmanbaria.
Officials of Subarna Paribahan, Eagle, Soheli Transport, Ishwardi Paribahan, Chandra Paribahan, Ananda Deluxe, Sonar Tari Paribahan, Zaker Paribahan, Royal Paribahan, AK Travels, Keya Paribahan and SR Travels, also said the same.
‘I hope I will get ticket on October 14 as sometimes some seats can be had by giving extra money,’ said Solaiman, a Jessore-bound private employee.
