Two distinguished Bengali music legends Sachin Dev Burman and Kobiyal Bijoy Sarkar were paid tribute by a group of local singers who presented famous numbers by the maestros at Music and Dance Centre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
It was the concluding day of a three-day programme Bishishto Jander Sarone, which began on Sunday.Presentation of Burman’s popular numbers Ghum bhulechhi nijhum e nishite by Semonti Manjuri, Kandibona fagun gele by Mamun Zahid Khan and Banshi shune ar kaj nai by Pallavi Sarkar pleased the audience.
On the other hand, Dil Afroze Reba enthralled the audience through her rendition of Bijoy Sarkar’s Ami jare basi bhalo in her powerfully melodious voice. Saiful Islam, Anupam Halder and Sanat Kumar Biswas presented Sarkar’s famous numbers like Posha pakhi ure jabe, Tumi jano na, E prithibi jemon ache.
In addition, members of cultural organisation Banhishikha presented in chorus Burman’s Jhilmil jhilmil jhiler jole and Sarkar’s Janite chai doyal tomar.
Earlier, poet Asad Chowdhury and folk-researcher Dr Sayeem Rana spoke on SD Burman and Bijoy Sarkar highlighting the lives and works of the two legends who wore the three different hats of singer, lyricist and composer.
On the opening day, Altaf Mahmud, Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, Abdul Latif, Sukhendu Chakraborty and Ajit Roy who were famous for composing people’s songs, were remembered through a commemorative discussion and a cultural session.
Presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, poet Asad Chowdhury and Akter Hossain spoke at the discussion session. The speakers emphasised on the lives and works of the composers who have immensely contributed to causes of the people.
Following the discussion, a programme was held in which cultural organisations and other singers paid homage to the composers by presenting their songs.
On the second day, famous journalist Ramesh Das Gupta and folk bard Ramesh Shil were paid tribute through a similar discussion and cultural programme at the same venue.
