One of the major contributors to the country’s economy is the apparel sector where millions toil hard from dawn to dusk. The cogs and wheels of this sector are kept running by millions of hands, majority of which are women.
But these working hands and their lives hardly get noticed. Society seems to be soullessly negligent to their welfare. The proof of such soulless negligence are many; Rana Plaza catastrophe, Tazreen fire are a few blazing examples.
From time to time, there have been initiatives of diverse types and results to better the lives of the workers. Among these initiatives are the makings of documentaries, films and plays which try to put forward the issues of apparel workers.
Noted actor-director Rokeya Prachy has recently been working on a serial drama titled Selai Paribar, where Prachy intends to focus on the struggles and dreams of apparel workers.
Prachy herself has written the script, based on a concept provided by Syed AK Anwaruzzaman. ‘I had to work with the apparel workers for many days to better acquaint myself with their lives, their sentiments, woes and happiness’, said Prachy in a press conference at a restaurant at Gulshan on Saturday.
The drama serial, prachy said, will not focus on any one incident; rather it will be a depiction of the everyday reality of the apparel workers. ‘The play will show the condition of the workers’ lives and demonstrate how their lives are conditioned’, Prachy said.
A group of powerful actors like Dilara Zaman, Joyonto Chattapadhyay, Ahmed Rubel, Ahsan Habib Nasim, Maznun Mizan, Sumona Shoma have acted in the serial.
The play will be aired soon on a private television channel.
