At least 12 people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Pabna, Gopalganj, Bagerhat, Chapainawabganj and Narayanganj districts on Saturday and yesterday.
Our correspondent from Pabna reports: A child was killed in a road accident on Bhangura-Faridpur highway at Berhawlia village of the district on Saturday.
He was identified as Md Abdul Alim, 7, son of Ujjal Pramanik of village Daharzani at Santhia upazila. He was a student of class three of Daharzani Primary School.
The accident occurred when Nasiman hit Alim while he was crossing the road at about 3:30pm on his way to his maternal grandfather’s house in Faridpur.
A correspondent from Gopalganj adds: At least one person was killed and another injured in a road accident near the Broken Bridge area under Moksudpur upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Alam Shofi, 16, hailed from Kadampur village of the upazila.
Police sources said the accident took place when a motorcycle ran over Alam while he was crossing the road, leaving the pedestrian Alam and the motorcyclist Tajul Islam critically injured.
Locals rescued them and sent to Moksudpur Health Complex. Later, on that night Alam died while he was undergoing treatment at the health complex.
A correspondent from Bagerhat says: At least four people were killed in separate road accidents at Rampal and Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.
Din Mohammad, sub-inspector of Sadar Highway Police Station, said the first accident occurred on Khulna-Mongla highway near Foyla Bazaar under Rampal upazila early yesterday when a Khulna-bound chickens-laden Nosimon from Mongla hit a standing truck from behind, leaving two dead on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Rouf Mollah, 25, a chicken trader and son of Sonayet Mollah and Siraj Fakir, 50, a driver of the three-wheeler. Both hailed from Maskata village under Fakirhat upazila.
In another accident, two bicyclists were killed when a passenger bus hit them from behind on Bagerhat-Khulna highway at Barakpur bus stand under Sadar upazila of the district.
The deceased were identified as Khabir Malongi, 42, son of Md Ali Malongi and Gias Hawlader, 44, son of Jalal Hawlader, both hailed from Mogra village of Sadar upazila.
Abdul Haq, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said the accident occurred around 12:45pm when a Bagerhat-bound passenger bus from Khulna hit two bicyclists from behind at Barakpur bus stand area, leaving Khabir dead on the spot and injured Gias.
Later, Gias died while he was undergoing treatment at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.
Our correspondent from Chapainawabganj reports: Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident on Chapainawabganj-Nachole road at Jamtala of Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj yesterday evening.
The deceased were identified as Durul Islam, 22, son of Jalal Uddin of Sidnapukur of jamtala and Mohammad Shahin, 18, son of Mujibur Rahman of Nayanagar of Jhilim union under Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at about 5:00pm when a Nachole-bound truck from Chapainawabganj collided head-on with a motorcycle at Jamtala while the two motorcyclists were going to Chapainawabagnj town, leaving motorcycle rider Durul dead on the spot and another co rider Shahin injured seriously.
Locals rushed him to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Shahin dead.
A correspondent from Narayanganj adds: At least four people were killed in a road accident at Shibu market under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning.
Locals and police sources said at about 10:30am the accident occurred when a Narayanganj-bound covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto rickshaw near the Shibu market area, leaving three of the auto-rickshaw passengers dead on the spot and injured its driver who later died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
The deceased were identified as Masud Salauddin, 35, Abdul Jabbar, 40, and CNG driver Apple, 25. The name of the other deceased could not be known immediately.
