A two-day digital innovation fair begins today in Sylhet to promote the use of information technology and its latest developments among the common people.
The education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, is scheduled to inaugurate the fair as chief guest at the Mohammad Ali Gymnasium of the district stadium at Rikabibazar in the city in the morning.
A total of 38 stalls would be set up in the fair, jointly arranged by the Sylhet divisional administration and the Access to Information Programme of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Of the stalls, 25 would be set up by the governmental organisations and nine by the private organisations while a media centre, an information centre and a voting centre also would be set up by the organisers in the fair venue.
The Sylhet divisional commissioner, NM Ziaul Alam, disclosed the information during a press briefing in the conference room of Sylhet district sports association at noon.
He said the initiative to arrange the digital fair was taken to take the facilities of modern technologies to the doorsteps of common people.
Two separate seminars also would be held in the two-day digital fair, which is open to all between 10:00am and 8:00pm, he informed the press bring.
Additional divisional commissioner Tajul Islam and Gautam Gosh, deputy commissioner Abu Syed Md Hashim and district council’s executive officer Harunur Rashid Molla, among others, were present at the press briefing.
