Two families devastated
At least 10 people, including five of a family, were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in Moulvibazar and Thakurgaon districts yesterday and Saturday night.
Witnesses said a Moulvibazar-bound bus collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kazirbazar area of Sadar upazila around 1:00pm, our Moulvibazar correspondent reported.
Four passengers of the auto-rickshaw — Hadis Mia, 35, his father Soleman Mia, 62, grandfather Chhobor Ali, 70, and uncle Jahaj Mia, 45 — died on the spot. Hadis’s uncle Sadik Mia, 40, who had been driving the auto, died while being taken to hospital. Two other members of the family — Hadis’s wife Sirajunnesa, 26, and his uncle Koresh Mia, 50 — survived the crash but were badly hurt.
Moulvibazar Police Station’s officer-in-charge Md Azizur Rahman said the accident occurred due to negligence of both the drivers.
In Thakurgaon, five people including a child were killed in a collision between a stone-laden truck and a three-wheeler on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway near Choto Khochabari Bazar area of Sadar upazila around 7:00pm Saturday, our correspondent in the district reported.
Of the deceased, three-wheeler passengers Mozibor Rahman, 40, Solendra Chandra Das, and Saiful Islam, 30, died on the spot and five-year-old Keya on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The other one, an unidentified person aged around 50, succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH.
Of the injured, Keya’s mother Durlav, 24, Komola, 25, Roma, 25, Liton, 40, and Tarul, 20, were admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. Four of them were shifted to RMCH as their condition deteriorated.
