The taekwondo discipline ended on Monday with Bangladesh Ansar and Bangladesh Army winning two gold medals each at the National Sports Council gymnasium.
Moslem Mia and Mizanur Rahman of Bangladesh Army grabbed gold medals while Shahnaz Parvin and Sushmita of Bangladesh Ansar clinched golds in their respective events.
In the -87 kg category, Moslem beat Ansar’s Nirmol Chowdhury in the final while Maznu Mia of BGB and Samiul Alam of BJMC jointly won the bronze medal.
Mizanur of Bangladesh Army won the gold medal of +87kg category by beating BGB’s Golam Mostofa and Abdur Rahman of BGB and BJMC’s Goutam Ghosh managed the bronze medal.
Meanwhile in the women’s -73kg category, Ansar’s Shahnaz Parvin secured gold by beating Taslima Akter Bijli of Coz’s Bazar. Tithi and Romana won the bronze medal in the event.
Sushmita of Ansar won the gold medal in +74 kg event. BJMC’s Anshah Anzu Khan won silver and Afsana and Nazma jointly won the bronze medal.
`I managed won the gold medal in the previous edition of the Bangladesh Games in 2002 and also got it this time, it is a great feeling for me to achieve another Bangladesh Games gold,’ an ecstatic Sushmita said.
The shooting discipline started with the Army Shooting Association grabbing two gold medals at the National Shooting Complex at Gulshan on Monday.
Sanjida Akter of Army put Ardina Ferdous of Kushtia Rifles Club behind to win 10m Air Pistol gold with a score of 202.9. Ardina won silver scoring 200.1 and Miti Dewan won the bronze hitting 159.6.
Selim Azad of Army won gold in the standard pistol event with a game record of 531 points, seven more than his team-mate Shahadat Ahmed (524). Bronze medal also went to Armyman Nadimul Islam.
Gulshan Club won the third gold of the day with Golam Shafiuddin Khan taking first position in 50m Rifle prone with a score of 580 points. Abdullah Hel Baki won silver medal while Tajul Islam grabbed bronze.
In the Tennis court, Sharmin Alam Sharda, Ishita Afroze and Shah Safina moved into the semi-finals of women’s singles after beating their respective rivals at the National Tennis Complex at Ramna.
Sharda defeated Suma Khatun 6-1, 6-0, Ishita beat Ripa 6-4, 7-5 and Safina beat Pinky Bepari 4-6, 6-2 and 6-1.
In mixed doubles, Sharda and Mofazzal Hossain pair, Ripa and Omar Faruque pair, Safina and Mamun Bepari pair and Sathi Sarker and Milon Hossain pair won their respective quarter-final matches to move into the semi-finals.
In mixed doubles table tennis final, Mahbub and Shoma duo of Ansar beat their team-mates Mostofa and Saleha by 3-2 sets while in the women’s doubles final Ansar’s Saleha and Sinthy grabbed the gold medal by beating their team-mates Shoma and Rumy. In the men’s doubles, Ansar’s Hasib and Rocky beat Manash and Hamlet of Chittagonj by 3-0 sets.
The Bangladesh Ansar won both the gold medals of men’s team event and women’s event in fencing at the Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium at Mirpur.
