Two more criminal cases were filed on Sunday night with Galachipa police station by local Awami League (AL) leaders against Golam Maula Rony, MP. Rony is the lawmaker of the ruling party for Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina) constituency. Rony and 28 of his associates, belonging to the notorious ‘Bhaiya Bahini’ gang, were accused in connection with cases of attacks, attempt to murder, ransacking of properties, forcible toll collection and hijacking.
The AL’s Galachipa upazila unit secretary, freedom fighter Golam Mostafa Titu, and vice president Prof. Shantosh Dey, who are opposed to Rony, were attacked by masked assailants after they filed the cases at 10:30 pm on Sunday. Upazila AL adviser and district AL leader Md. Shahjahan was also injured in the attack by the masked assailants.
One case was lodged by an AL leader, former Panpatty union parishad chairman Shamsuzzaman Likhan, which named 42 accused, including Rony and 16 others of the Bhaiya Bahini gang.
Another case was lodged by Galachipa upazila AL organizing secretary Badrul Islam Khan. In that case, the complainant alleged that cadres led by Rony and his brother-in-law, Dakua union parishad chairman Maqbul Khan, demanded Tk. 5 lakh as toll.
