Police yesterday arrested two alleged robbers while trying to commit a robbery in a rented house at Uttara in the city.
They are Majedul Islam Manju, son of Abdus Salam of Amtoli of Barguna and Mohammad Joshim, son of Abdul Malek of Rangabali of Patuakhali.
Mohammad Zahir in his complaint lodged with the Uttara Police Station said the robbers entered his flat introducing themselves as relatives of him (Zahir) at about 10:45am when he went out for office in the morning.
“My wife called me over phone suspecting them robbers as she couldn’t recognise them,” said Zahir.
The robbers took hostage his wife, Rabeya Akhter, and the domestic help and pushed his two years old son into the water of a bucket to pressurise her to hand them over the keys of almirah, he added.
In the meantime, Zahir called the owner of the house and his security guards over phone for help.
On information, police rushed in at about 12:00 pm and arrested the two with the help of locals, said Khandakar Rejaul Hasan, OC of the police.
