The majority inhabitants of three union councils became happy as they heard the district administration served public notice to include three union councils in the Narayanganj City Corporation while some political leaders differed with people’s opinion.
A resident of Kashipur union council, Halim Shikdar, while presiding over a meeting on September 3, welcomed the administration decision.
The district administration served a public notice on August 29 which included Kashipur, Gognagar and Enayet Nagar union councils in the city corporation.
They issued thirty days probation to the inhabitants to submit any objection against this public notice.
After thirty days from the day of public notice announcement the decision will be finalised after mass hearing on objection or consent.
In the newly published public notice announced the name of three municipalities are Kashipur, Enayetnagar and Gognagar under Fatulla thana.
Deputy commissioner of Narayanganj Monoj Kanti Boral mentioned that the public notice was announced basis on direction from the ministry of local government and rural development and co-operative affair.
The existing Narayanganj City Corporation comprised former Narayanganj municipality, Bandar municipality and Shiddhirganj municipality.
Jurisdiction of the city corporation will be increased and revenue collection will reach high and the residents near to city will get more civic facilities, Samsul Arefin, a Kashipur union parishad inhabitants said.
On the other hand most of the residents of three union councils of Fatulla thana want to merge with Narayanganj City Corporation as they have been enjoying all kind of civic amenities like developed zone but identified as union council dwellers.
Four union councils- Kashipur, Gognagar, Enayet Nagar and Fatulla had already been merged to Narayanganj City Corporation for two terms but it became a barrier as the chairmen of those union councils campaigned against the inclusion and later filed case with the court against government order.
The people of the four municipality placed strong plea to get attached with the city corporation. They also mentioned the example of the other two zones named Bandar and Shiddhirganj were less developed though now they were attached to city dweller.
Asking the inclusion of city corporation the desired people of four municipalities urged that they were more developed than other municipality of the district but they had to live under union councils.
Some political leaders were the chief barrier against the ongoing process of city corporation area extension and started negative campaign, the people of the municipality alleged.
On September 9 some people of Enayet Nagar union council along with BSCIC formed a human chain against the inclusion of their union with city corporation.
Different political party affiliated union unit leader of Kashipur union opted for for negative campaign and they will hold a rally on September 13.
