Mohammedan Sporting Club cricketers refused to take part in training session on Saturday due to payment dispute at the Academy ground, according to officials and witnesses.
Mohammedan take on Kalabagan Krira Chaka in their last Dhaka Premier League match of the first phase at Fatullah today, a game they must win to progress into the Super League.
A defeat against Kalabagan could mean the end of their campaign as their fate then will lie at the hands of some else.
They will also need some favour from bitter rivals Kalabagan Cricket Academy, who will play their last game against Victoria the next day.
Mohammedan can progress with a defeat against Kalabagan only if KCA beat Victoria.
Knowing that the club’s fate hanging in the balance, players made a desperate attempt to get their payment cleared and refused to train initially.
The matter was only resolved when the team manager Wasim Khan arrived at the ground to assure them that everything will be fine within two to three days.
Several players on request of anonymity informed that the club officials had given numerous dates to clear their dues but did not bother to comply with their commitment.
Wasim Khan admitted about the payment delay but insisted no player will remain unpaid.
‘There were some problems with payments related issues but everything went fine later and the players took part in training,’ Wasim told New Age on Saturday.
‘These kinds of things are common in club cricket but there is no use in making a hue and cry over it,’ said Wasim
‘We are a traditional powerhouse and we won’t let them down by dodging them with their payments,’ he added.
Money had remained to be a major issue in the MSC camp for quite some time which prompted the club to a form mediocre side in the league.
As a result, the team is still unsure of making a place in the super league of DPL and will have to wait on lot of calculations before they can play the phase.
MSC are struggling with their payment issue for the last few years, which led them facing a similar threat last year with the football team.
