US Congressman Steve Chabot will arrive in Dhaka today on a two-day official visit to discuss the current political challenges Bangladesh is facing over the upcoming general elections.
Chabot will also discuss the Dhaka-Washington bilateral relation with Bangladesh’s top political leaders, according to a press release of the US embassy.The press release further said Chabot will look into the International War Crimes Tribunals and the overall security situation in the country.
Official sources said Chabot, who is the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, is scheduled to call on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her office this morning and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia in the evening.
He is expected to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow. Besides, he will hold a roundtable discussion on his visit to Bangladesh tomorrow afternoon.
