The US University Fair in Chattogram attracted a large crowd on Thursday as graduate and undergraduate students attended the event to meet representatives of 26 reputed higher education institutions of the United States.
The number of Bangladeshi students enrolling in colleges and universities in the United States is increasing and the US wants this number to grow more to strengthen and develop ties between the two countries, said an official of the US embassy here in Chattogram yesterday.
Stephen F Ibelli, public affairs counselor of the US embassy, said, “Last year we saw a 23 percent jump in the number of students from Bangladesh attending colleges in the US.”
Around 11000 Bangladeshi students went to the US last year to get enrolled in the American college and universities, he said.
Ibelli was addressing at US University Fair held at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View.
The fair was organised by the US embassy in Bangladesh, through its Education USA platform.
A total of 24 colleges and universities from all over the United States took part at the fair displaying their courses at different stalls.
Huge number of interested graduate and under graduate students attended the fair.
According to Embassy officials the number of Bangladeshi students in the United States has more than tripled in the past decade.
They said in the 2011-2012 academic year, there were 3,314 Bangladeshi students in the United States, while the number increased to 10,597 in 2021-2022 academic year.
