Usha Krira Chakra maintained their dominance in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League title race as they defeated Abahani Limited 2-0 at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Monday. Usha’s sixth consecutive victory meant the Old Dhaka powerhouse still remained at the summit with 18 points before the Super Four round gets underway. If Usha persist with their winning habit in the three matches of the Super Four round then they will be crowned champions.
Abahani, who succumbed to their second defeat against Usha this season, struggled in the field as they grassed 14 penalty corner opportunities.
Usha skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan put his side ahead in the 32nd minute from a penalty corner.
Abahani earned as many as nine penalty corners in the first half but their Pakistani attacking trio failed to utilise them.
Both sides took to the field with four Pakistani players each but Abahani’s foreign quartet were unable to assert any sort of authority. Zahid Bin Talib Shuva doubled Usha’s lead in the 40th minute with a rebound shot from the striking circle.
