The authorities of the University of Science and Technology in Chittagong on Wednesday closed the institution for an indefinite period following a clash between two groups of students.
The clash took place at about 12:30pm between the BBA students and MBBS students of Bangabandhu Memorial Medical College Hospital on the campus over previous enmity.
Witnesses said the clash left a BBA student, Mithun Chowdhury, severely injured and he was admitted to the university’s Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital.
The USTC academic pro vice-chancellor, AHM Ishaque Chowdhury, said the authorities decided to suspend classes to avoid further violence.
The authorities were concerned about the safety of the foreign students on the campus, he said.
Scheduled exams would be continued and academic office would remain open, the pro-VC added.
The police remained deployed to keep the situation under control.
