Production materials and machinery worth around Tk 1.5 crore were
burnt to ashes at a foam factory in Sylhet on Thursday night.
The conflagration took place at Khadim Nagar BSIC industrial area of the city.
Local sources said the fire broke out in the Dunlop Foam Factory at Khadim Nagar BSIC industrial area around 7:30pm and spread in the whole industry within several minutes.
Being informed, a team of Sylhet Fire Service rushed to the spot and put out the fire at around 8:15pm.
But almost all of the machineries and appliances were reduced to ashes, the fire-fighters reported.
Erfan Ali Sonar, deputy director of Sylhet fire service told New Age that an electric short circuit culminated in the fire broke out.
‘The amount of damage could be up to Tk 1.5 crore,’ he added.
