The prices of vegetables went up on the capital’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday due to lower supply after Eid-ul-Azha. Onion price remained high but the price of green chilli decreased on the kitchen markets. The early harvested winter vegetables have started to come in the market with high prices. Besides, the prices of most of the seasonal vegetables increased by Tk 5-Tk 10 a kg over the week.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 60 a kg, okra at Tk 50 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 a kg and papaya at Tk 25 a kg on the day.
Winter vegetables including cauliflower and cabbage weighing around 400-500 grams were selling at Tk 40 a piece and Tk 30 a piece respectively while bean was selling at Tk 70 a kg on Friday.
The local onion was selling at Tk 100-105 a kg on the retail market while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 95-100 a kg.
The price of green chilli decreased by Tk 40 a kg and was selling at Tk 100 a kg on the day.
The prices of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) decreased by Tk 5 and was selling at Tk 570-Tk 585 on Friday. The price of unpacked soya bean oil remained unchanged and was retailing at Tk 112-Tk 115 a kg over the week.
The price of garlic remained unchanged and was selling at Tk 70 a kg on Friday.
The price of local red lentil increased by Tk 5 a kg and was selling at Tk 105 a kg while the imported item was selling at Tk 80 a kg on different kitchen markets.
The price of egg decreased by Tk 4 a hali (four pieces) and was selling at Tk 28 a hali on Friday.
The price of sugar increased by Tk 2 a kg and was retailing at Tk 46-Tk 48 a kg.
The price of potato remained stable and the item was selling at Tk 15 a kg on the day.
The prices of fish remained high on the retail markets.
Rohita was selling at Tk 250–Tk 300 a kg on Friday, pangas at Tk 180–Tk 250 a kg and tilapia at Tk 160–Tk 200 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
Hilsa weighting about 700-800 grams was selling at Tk 350-Tk 400 a piece. Hilsa weighing around 1 kg was selling at Tk 650-Tk 800 a kg on Friday.
The price of broiler decreased by Tk 10 a kg and it was selling at Tk 115-Tk 125 a kg over the week.
The prices of beef and mutton remained steady. Beef was selling at Tk 280 a kg and mutton at Tk 450 a kg on the day.
Rice prices remained steady. Fine varieties of miniket and najirshail were selling at Tk 46-Tk 48 a kg and Tk 52-Tk 54 a kg respectively, BR-28 at between Tk 40 and Tk 45 a kg and coarse varieties at Tk 34 a kg on the city’s retail markets on Friday.
