Prices of most of the vegetables rose on the retail markets in the capital over the week ending Friday as the supply chain was disrupted by a pre-monsoon downpour.
Most of the vegetables increased by Tk 5 a kilogram over the week.
Traders said there was a supply shortage of vegetables due to a downpour in the last couple of days.
Aubergine was retailing at Tk 40 a kg on Friday, cucumber at Tk 30 a kg, tomato at Tk 30 a kg, papaya at Tk 40 a kg, okra at Tk 30 a kg and bitter gourd at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg.
The prices of garlic and ginger also increased by Tk 10 a kg and the commodities were retailing at Tk 90 a kg and Tk 120 a kg respectively.
The imported garlic and ginger were selling at Tk 110 a kg and Tk 90 a kg respectively on the day.
Retailers said that the volume of the local production of garlic and ginger was very thin.
So, the prices of local garlic and ginger increased on both wholesale and retail markets, they said.
The price of green chilli, however, decreased by Tk 20-Tk 30 a kg and was selling at Tk 50-Tk 60 a kg over the week ending Friday.
The price of onion remained unchanged and was selling at Tk 35 a kg while the imported onion was selling at Tk 30 a kg on the day.
The price of all varieties of red lentil remained high and the red lentil imported from Turkey and Canada was selling at Tk 85-Tk 90 a kg over the week.
The price of fine variety of red lentil named ‘kangaroo’ was selling at Tk 130 a kg on Friday while the local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 115 a kg.
The price of egg remained unchanged and it was retailing at Tk 33-Tk 34 a hali (four pieces) in the city’s retail markets.
The prices of fish remained high on the city’s kitchen markets over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 250-Tk 320 a kg, katla at Tk 220-Tk 300 a kg, pangas at Tk 140-Tk 250 a kg and tilapia at Tk 140-Tk 160 a kg depending on their size and quality.
Broiler price decreased by Tk 5 and it was selling at Tk 140-Tk 150 a kg on the day.
The prices of beef and mutton remained unchanged.
Beef was selling at Tk 280-Tk 300 a kg and mutton at Tk 425-Tk 450 a kg on Friday.
Both unpacked soya bean and super palm oil prices remained unchanged and the commodities were retailing at Tk 120 a kg and Tk 82 a kg respectively on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 655 to Tk 665 on the city’s kitchen markets.
The price of sugar remained steady and the commodity was selling at Tk 48 a kg on the day.
The newly-harvested miniket and najirshail were selling at Tk 42 a kg and Tk 44 a kg respectively while the old varieties were selling at Tk 46 a kg and Tk 48 a kg respectively on the day.
