The police arrested at least two protesters as angry villagers in Tangail ransacked the furniture of Power Development Board office at Shakhipur Wednesday morning in protest against supply of power for only an hour a day over last two weeks.
Officers and other personnel left the office as angry people of four villages ransacked it.
According to the Shakhipur police station two policemen were injured before they could bri8ng the situation under control.
The police said that assistant police sub-inspector Monir Mahmud and constable Kubbat Ali sustained injuries.
The police said that arrested two protesters, Samim and Alamin from the spot.
Villagers of Kirtonkhola, Pathar, Gajaria and Langolia, who get power supply from the PDB substation at Shakhipur, said that despite repeated complaints they had lodged there was no improvement in power supply.
Assistant engineer Abdul Halim of the PDB substation told New Age that they could supply no more than only one mega watt of power against the demand of four mega watts.
Shakhipur police station officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque told New Age that a group of angry people lead by Atiqur Rahman Bulbul, organising secretary of upazila chapter of Awami League and Rafiq-E- Rasel, joint secretary vandalized the Shakhipur PDB office.
He said that on reaching the spot the police brought the situation under control.
Halim said that the local PDB office was preparing to file a case with Shakhipur police station in this connection.
