BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday urged people to vote for the BNP-led four-party alliance to foil the conspiracy to make the country a ‘failed and subservient’ state.
“A political alliance has been conspiring to make the country a failed and subservient state.
They foiled the January 22 election last year killing people and brought the present government to power,” Khaleda said at a street rally at Mohammadpur Town Hall Bazar in the capital.
In the last two years, the caretaker government destroyed the country’s economy and failed to check the prices of essentials many of which have gone out of the reach of common people.
She called upon the people to be united to foil the conspiracy being hatched by some political parties.
After announcing the party’s election manifesto at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Khaleda addressed 14 street rallies in the capital and introduced the four-party alliance candidates to the people.
She addressed street rallies at Adabar, Rayerbazar, Darus Salam, Mirpur Mazar, bus stands at Mirpur-10 and 11, Rokeya Sarani, Kachukhet Tamanna Complex, Azampur at Uttara, Khilkhet bus stand, Rampura Bazar, Madhya Badda and Banani Bazar.
Khaleda pledged that she would take special measures to solve the water and power crises in the capital if the four-party alliance is voted to power.
The BNP chairperson also promised to bring down the prices of essentials and create new jobs.
She urged the people to vote for her party to establish a government based on nationalist and Islamic values.
Terming the events of January 11 last year a conspiracy against her party and family, Khaleda said, “The present caretaker government has put tremendous pressure on me to leave the country. It also tortured my two sons because my family loves Bangladesh.”
She said the caretaker government has turned the country into ‘a prison.’ “Hawkers have been forced off the streets and many slums have been evicted in the last two years,” she said.
Khaleda termed the party’s electoral symbol ’sheaf of paddy’ the sign of ‘development, independence and sovereignty.’
Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain also spoke at the meeting.
