Seven drinking water processing plants were sued by a court in Chittagong for using the BSTI seal without obtaining licence and supplying unsafe drinking water.
The accused companies are Messrs Oasis Drinking Water, Messrs Times Foods and Beverage Industries BD Limited, Messrs Ravina Limited, Messrs Asian Foods and Beverage Limited, Messrs Rahmania Enterprise, Messrs Safa Marwa Food and Beverage and Messrs Haven Drinking Water.
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Chittagong assistant director, KM Hanif, said a BSTI team conducted a two-day drive in different areas of the port city on Tuesday and Wednesday and found the accused drinking water plants processing water in an unhygienic condition without following the purification procedure.
