Coca-Cola will bring world football’s greatest prize, the FIFA World Cup trophy, to Bangladesh from December 17 to 19 to give local football fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the trophy. ‘Today is a very important day, not only for Coca-Cola, but also for football lovers of Bangladesh because for the first time, Coca-Cola, with help from FIFA and the BFF, is announcing the World Cup trophy will tour to Bangladesh,’ Coca-Cola Far East Limited country manager Debasish Deb said on Sunday.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin is also excited to see the World Cup trophy for the first time.
‘We may not win the trophy ever, but we will have the trophy in Bangladesh. I think it will be a great pleasure for the football fans of Bangladesh to come and see the World Cup themselves. I have also never seen it myself, so it will be the first opportunity to see that which all young footballers dream of winning one day,’ said Salahuddin.
The BFF chief also hopes that Coca-Cola will assist the BFF in developing youth football in Bangladesh.
‘I will request to Abdul Monem Group and to Coca Cola that, when we finish the tour of World Cup trophy, I would like that they will directly participate to develop the game in Bangladesh.’
Ahead of the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa, the trophy travelled to 38 countries around the world. This time, 50 more countries have been added to the World Cup trophy travel list.
