Terming the verdict “wrong”, the chief defence counsel, Barrister Abdur Razzaq, told reporters that they would file a review petition, seeking review of the judgment.
“It’s a wrong verdict, we are aggrieved, surprised, and we think the verdict is against justice,” Razzak made the observation in an instant reaction at a press briefing at the SC auditorium soon after the apex court verdict. “We will file a review petition within 30 days of receiving the full verdict,” he added.
“It is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh that the SC has awarded death penalty to Mollah although the trial court had sentenced him for life,” he said. Razzak, however, also said that they were respectful of the highest court in the land. “We are bound to accept this verdict. But we think that it was a wrong judgment and we would file a review petition before the apex court for getting justice,” he added. Asked whether they would seek presidential mercy, Razzaq said: “Quader Mollah’s family would decide the matter.”
