A weeklong Madhu Fair marking Michael Madhusudan Dutta’s 190th birth anniversary began at the poet’s birthplace at Sagardari under Keshabpur upazila in Jessore on Saturday.
Jessore district administration chalked out several programmes to mark the anniversary of birth of the poet.
The programme includes discussion meetings, drama festivals and other cultural programmes.
The fair also features several stalls displaying traditional pithas and other gift items.
Moreover, it features performances of traditional jatra, circus and puppet shows by artistes from different corners of the country.
State minister for public administration Ismat Ara Sadeq inaugurated Madhu Fair, which will continue till January 31.
Chaired by Mostafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Jessore, the opening session was attended by Kazi Nabil Ahmed,
MP; Swapan Kumar Bhattachariya, MP; Ranjit Kumar Roy, MP; Joydeb Kumar Bhadra, superintendent of police, Jessore and others.
