Kalabagan Krira Chakra skipper Masharfee bin Murtaza recorded the fastest hundred in a list ‘A’ match in Bangladesh to guide his side to a 21-run win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club during their Dhaka Premier League at Fatullah. Mashrafee made 104 runs off 51 balls to help his team put a commanding 316 runs and later Hamilton Mazakadza picked up four wickets to bowl out their opponents for 295 runs to pick their second win of the season.
Masharfee dominated the proceeding single-handedly with his willow since arriving at six to take the game away from the jaws of his opponents.
During his blistering batting display, he smashed two fours and 11 sixes, record by a Bangladeshi in a list ‘A’ match, to left everyone present in the venue simply awestruck.
Sakib al Hasan, Anamul Haque and Ezaz Ahmed struck 10 sixes in a list ‘A’ match earlier to own the record of scoring highest number of sixes but Mashrafee rewrote the history.
Kalabagan, who earlier had only one win from five matches and never looked to create an impression somehow looked completely different when they took on their neighbouring rivals.
Kalabagan opener Jashimuddin made 64 runs and added 71 runs for the second wicket with Mazakadza (45) to prevent their opponents from taking any early advantage.
Kalabagan reached 101 inside 21 overs before dangerous looking Masakadza was removed by a run out affected by Arafat Sunny, who featured for the first time since being alleged of having suspect bowling action.
Jamal believed to have made some sort of a comeback when Sohag Gazi removed Tasamul (33) and Jashimuddin (64) within the span of two balls to leave Kalabagan at 169-4.
As Mashrafee was walking to the crease, their opponent was eyeing to get hold of Kalabagan cheaply but hardly did they know that Mashrafee would choose this game to express his batting ability that too in such murderous mood.
Mashrafee began his onslaught by hitting a four and it was followed by a six against Nazmus Sadat and did not take long to take every bowler under his wrath.
Left-arm spinner Wahidul Alam felt the storm as the whirlwind of Mashrafee scored four sixes, the last one took him past three-figure, in the 48th over of the innings.
In reply, Jamal were 1-1 as Mashrafee removed Mahbubul Karim in his fifth ball but Abdullah al Mamun (40) and Sohag Gazi (47) put 71 runs for the second wicket before Mazakadza started to play his demolition act by removing Mamun.
Jamal were 124-6 as they hardly were in the right direction during the chase by losing wickets at regular intervals before wicket keeper Jabid Hasan and Muktar Ali added some climax.
Jabid remained unbeaten on 52 runs and added 74 runs for the seventh wicket with Muktar (51) and Wahid, who batted at 11, scored 49 before he was run out in the last ball just to reduce the margin.
